Makerspaces are stations where students can participate in a variety of creative activities that incorporate science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). This grant was designed to increase the reading skills of students to prevent illiteracy, the inability to read, and more importantly aliteracy, having the ability but choosing not to read. This project provides hands-on activities to build skills as well as books of high-interest to help students apply skills and enjoy reading. These funds will purchase an array of books and help cultivate a comfortable atmosphere for students.

The purpose of this grant it so exposes to AgEd students the numerous Agriculture career opportunities – specifically, near Troy – in the St. Louis metro area. The funds will be used to emphasize the importance of the agricultural industry and its related fields, develop leadership in personal leadership and personal development skill in AgEd students, and teach valuable and practical life skills to AgEd students and continue to impact the ever-changing R-III community.

This grant will enrich the academic performance for student’s involved in Quiz Bowl and math teams. These funds will purchase extra buzzer systems for practice and conference needs. Having these buzzers will allow more students to participate in these extracurricular activities.

This program allows students to receive personal feedback on their progress, watch and post YouTube videos on Canvas, create web pages, have conversations in the target language with their classmates via discussion boards on Canvas or with native speakers from classrooms around the world, and Skype with students in other countries.

This award will provide opportunities for the most significantly cognitively impaired students to access the community and transfer skills taught in the classroom into the “real world.” Teachers are able to provide instruction in communication, math, language arts, and social skills, but they cannot help students apply any of these skills in the community in real life situations. The ability to transfer these skills will have a huge impact on their post-secondary transition to adulthood.
